Our employees are our most valuable asset, and their health and safety is of paramount importance to our operations worldwide. Universal believes that a safe and healthy working environment is key to a productive workforce. Our management teams seek to provide the highest standard of machinery and physical facilities required to foster personal health and safety.
The Company has established and published corporate guidelines regarding the controls and procedures necessary to maintain the health and safety of employees. In addition, we regularly audit the health and safety systems in each of our global operations.
At Universal, the prevention of occupationally induced injuries and illnesses takes precedence over operating productivity. Education, training, execution, and hardware are important parts of our programs. We provide employees with the procedures, training, and personal protective equipment needed for doing the job safely and effectively.
Health and safety begins with the systematic identification of possible work hazards. These hazards can then be minimized or removed by engineering and design modifications to our facilities and the incorporation of appropriate policies and work procedures. The employees at our facilities are trained to perform their job based on these work procedures and local health and safety personnel regularly review these procedures and verify compliance.
Our health and safety programs also address areas such as fire safety, evacuation plans, first aid, use of personal protective equipment and site security.
